Bent Spool

An effect for turning simple parts into unexpected rhythms and melodies. Bent Spool has three modes. TREM pulses the volume. REPEAT turns a note into a run of pitched copies. LOOPS plays moving fragments of what you just played. Input drive comes first, then the mode, then tape wear.

It runs as:

  • An AUv3 effect and a standalone app on iPhone and iPad (iOS 17.0 or later), in hosts such as AUM and Loopy Pro.
  • AU, VST3 and AAX plug-ins, plus a standalone app, on macOS 11.0 or later (Apple silicon and Intel).
  • VST3 plug-in and a standalone app on Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). There is no AU or AAX on Windows.

It is an effect, not an instrument. It takes mono or stereo audio in and always returns stereo. It has no MIDI input.

How this manual is organised

Getting started covers installing, licensing and a first sound. Guide goes through the face, the back panel, each mode, CHAOS, WEAR, DRIVE, presets and host use. Reference lists the 48 factory presets and every host parameter. The appendix has troubleshooting and support contacts.

The face and back panel are the same on every platform. Where iPhone/iPad and desktop differ (licensing, preset handling, window size), the page says so.

Control names

Control names in capitals, such as DRIVE or MIX, match the labels printed on the pedal. Panel at a glance shows each one on a picture.

This manual describes Bent Spool 1.0 for desktop (macOS and Windows, installer version 1.0.1) and for iPhone and iPad. One desktop license covers both Mac and Windows.
